The Ferrari paintings of Dexter Brown
A lavish new book by Simon Khachadourian, titled SUPERFAST The Ferrari Paintings of Dexter Brown, is being published by The Pullman Gallery – which will also hold a retrospective exhibition of Dexter's artworks at its Mount Street premises from 1st May until 12th June.
More than 300 pages of Dexter’s much-loved work, with full-page colour illustrations, provides a truly beautiful visual record of Ferrari’s achievements on road and track, ranging from the marque's first racing triumph in 1947 through to the 2007 Formula One season. The powerful and compelling paintings cover the milestones which created the Ferrari legend, including Dexter’s unique commissions for Italian styling house Pininfarina.
The book’s foreword is written by Nick Mason, a man whose own fame often eclipses that of his father, Bill Mason, the doyen of motor racing filmmakers. Yet the senior Mason struck up a rare rapport with Enzo Ferrari, to the extent that the Italian arranged for him to share the cockpit of a 340 America in the 1953 Mille Miglia.
Only 550 copies of the limited-edition volume will be printed: 500 cloth-bound with slipcase, priced at £375, and 50 leather-bound with slipcase, priced at £695 (excluding p&p). All 550 copies are signed by both the artist and the author. Meanwhile, the retrospective exhibition of Dexter Brown's work will be held at The Pullman Gallery, 116 Mount Street, Mayfair, London WIK 3NH. Open Mon-Fri:11-6pm; Sat: 11-4pm.
