MICROSOFT ORIGAMI
This is the New Age of PDA, micro-laptops, micro-computers, micro-gadgets...
Check out Microsoft's ORIGAMI
The general specifications are as follows:
* Windows XP Tablet Edition 2005, with Windows Touch Pack
* Intel Celeron M, Pentium M, or possibly VIA C7-M processor
* 800x480 (minimum) resolution
* 7" (diagonal screen)
* 30GB hard drive, or more (50GB and 60GB to be common)
* US$600-1,000 price tag
* USB inputs
it is good to see that Microsoft is serious about mobility but the fact that Windows Mobile phone is missing in the presentation and in the whole Microsoft Origami concept, is a bit disappointing. The bottom line is that Microsoft will have at last something to offer against Sony PSP and (upcoming) Apple touchBook (that will have two-point usage interface = more than 2 points on the screen can be touched)... but we must yet see whether this device will be branded by Microsoft and made for Microsoft or whether it will be just "Windows Vista Mobile" platform and destined for manufacturing for big name brands like Toshiba, Sony and other less known...
Origami is not the first effort to shrink the PC. For some time, OQO has sold a supersmall PC with a slide-out keyboard. On the tablet side, start-up Dualcor Technologies announced in January the cPC, a $1,500 device with a 5-inch screen and Windows XP. The tiny tablet is somewhat similar to the Origami idea, but it is aimed at businesses and has cell-phone capabilities built in.
Initial buyers of the Origami will likely have to weigh whether its small size makes it a better bet than low-end laptops, which, though bulkier, offer faster processors, larger screens and full-size keyboards.
